Project name: KATOENNATIE Solar Energy Kallo
Application: Managing the solar energy production
If requested by EANDIS, we can limit the generated solar energy by automatically switching the surface on and off (= warehouses).
The Solar Energy plant of KTN Kallo consists of 18 warehouses, each with a maximum output of 1700kW. This means that there can be a maximum turnover of 30 MW.
Because EANDIS did not allow more than 16MW of energy production to be ‘injected’ into their network in 2010, the system ensured that warehouses were switched off if we were about to exceed this maximum. In addition, EANDIS can ask us to reduce this 16MW to 50% or 0%.
All warehouses are connected by an ethernet network consisting of optical fiber and ethernet switches. For each warehouse, the controlment consists of a Zelio and a modbus TCP / IP communication module (SR3NET01). The zelios will switch the warehouses on or off at the request of the Master PLC (M340). In this PLC there is an algorithm that automatically sends the correct pilots based on the measurement of the total power and the set maximum power.
Communication with EANDIS takes place via hardware contacts that represent 0-50-100%.
The entire site is displayed on a touch screen (XBTGT Magelis). In addition, we can, both locally and from a distance (via VPN and the webgate function of the XBTGT Magelis):
– change all parameters,
– switch off the warehouses by manual mode or switch them on
– display alarm pages (historical + real-time)
– follow and / or upload the complete course of the energy turnover.
Finally, a GPRS modem, the eWON 2101, is used to inform the people of KATOENNATIE (via SMS / mail) when EANDIS has requested a shutdown. This GPRS modem also allows us to leave this installation unmanned. In addition, this modem keeps up its own alarm logging.
